Why would you want to move your chicken coop anyway?

Attaching wheels to a chicken coop may sound like a strange idea until you think about it a little bit...

1. Prevent permanent destruction of your lawn by relocating your chickens to "greener pastures."

2. Depending where you live, moving your coop closer to the house in winter makes taking care of your birds much easier. When warmer weather returns, move them back out in the yard.

3. Extreme weather in the forecast? Move your coop, and its occupants, to shelter in your garage or barn.

Close-up of coop wheelsHorizon Structures' chicken coop wheels are inflatable tires on solid metal casters.

Wheels are mounted on double 2x4s to the bottom of the coop. Wheels are also available separately.

Our 5x6 coop weighs approximately 750 pounds. Two or three able-bodied adults can move the coop simply by pushing on the back wall. This will tilt the coop forward onto the wheels to allow it to be moved to the desired location.

You could also move the coop by attaching it to a vehicle and dragging it. Again, the attachment should be made from the back of the coop. As with pushing, this should slightly elevate the back legs and tilt the coop forward onto the wheels.

Should you choose, the wheels can easily be taken off by simply removing 4 screws.

** Whether pushing or dragging the coop, always use caution and
well-maintained tools and equipment to avoid injury. **
