Good morning, everyone. My name is Nicole - I'll be doing most of the moderating around this forum, so I thought I'd better give an introduction for myself.
Here at Horizon I work mostly on the customer service and administration end of things. My "side job" is coop "modeling" for our ads and website. lol. I really enjoy my job here, the great team of people we have, and our awesome customers!
Outside of work, I am a full-time college student; I'm more or less half-way towards my degree in English education. In my spare time, when I'm not riding or doing school work, I like hiking and photography. I recently bought a Pentax K200D, which I'm loving!
One of the biggest passions in my life is horses. I ride at a local barn, where I work horses for my trainer and help groom and coach at shows. No horse of my own yet! We have Saddlebreds, Morgans, Hackney ponies, two Friesians -- and a resident miniature donkey. Our horses do a little bit of everything - saddle seat, western, hunt, driving (including squirrely roadster ponies!). Any other saddle horse fans out there?

Hi Nicole, This forum was a good idea and I think your doing a great job! I currently have an Arabian Saddlebred, Tennessee Walker and a Thoroughbred each of course with their own personality.
Thanks again, Paul |

Thanks!
I had a National Show Horse a while back, Tuffy. He was such a good boy, with the prettiest head you've ever seen! His only fault is that he has a big/tall ASB body with tiny Arab feet. He had quarter crack issues at one point, but now that he's semi-retired and out on pasture all the time he's doing great.
Also, my first horse was a Tennessee Walker, Crystal, when I was a kid. hahaha. I had a lot of fun with that horse - he'd do anything and he took good care of me.
What do you do with your horses?

Mostly feed them, take care (groom etc.) and pick-up after them.
I took my 9 year old daughter to our first show with the Thoroughbred and we occasionally trail ride. |

Sounds like your horses are living the good life! haha.
That's so exciting about your daughter's first show! I love it when I get to be there for kids' first shows where I ride. What class/es did she show in? How did she do - was she nervous? Were YOU nervous? :) Did she have fun, and will the showing become a habit now?
Sorry so many questions!

We were the only outsiders, trailering in; all the other horses and riders were from that stable. My daughter did great. The horse on the other hand was showing off for the fillies (judge didn't like that). When he pawed the ground and was anxious she would turn him in a circle (she handled him very well). She was in a few different classes and placed anywhere from 6th to 1st. After she was done she assisted her friend in handing out the ribbons/prizes, which I think she enjoyed more than the show.
We were all nervous we didn't know what to do or expect. I would do it again if she wanted to. |

It sounds like you had a great day then! Working the gate at a show is one of the best ways to really learn how it all works and see everything that happens. And it's even better that your daughter got to do it with a friend!
