Does anyone have any suggestions for getting rid of rats in the coop?

I can't imagine risking using poison. Kill snap traps aren't an option. I found a havaheart(sp) trap but the chickens could get into that too.

I had that problem for many year, many years ago. What I found that works for me is actually "management". I don't leave out any feed for the chickens in the evening hours...everything gets picked up except the water. I feed plenty during the day so that in the evening they are fat, sassy and satisfied.

For actully trapping them, I found that using a rat trap near the hole with a big muck bucket over it to keep the chickens from getting to it worked really well.
