What is the usual cleaning routine for a chicken coop?

I get this question quite often. I usually suggest the people clean their coops weekly. This way you do not risk a big buildup of manure and odors. Also, the weekly routine often results in a shorter period of cleanup. Anyhow, weekly is how often you should be scrubbing your feeders and waterers with soap, water, and then bleach (or other disinfectant), so it just fits in nicely with the weekly cleaning routine. Some people need to wait longer and if they have enough space and deep enough litter, then they do okay. Just remember, if you smell a strong odor of ammonia when you come into the coop, then it was time to clean yesterday! Good luck!
