The Scarlet Rose Farm Equine Rescue is a non-profit organization dedicated to saving equines from slaughter.
SRFER was founded by Kate Thurlow in '08, after learning of the plight of horses on the east coast heading to slaughter in Canada for human consumption abroad.
The horses are rescued from auctions and feedlots in PA and NJ. When the horses arrive at the rescue they undergo a quarantine and evaluation period. The rescues are all ridden and trained by Kate, then put up for adoption.
Since being founded, the rescue has saved 14 horses from slaughter and worked to find them ideal forever homes.
