Raising Chickens for Dummies
Are you thinking about getting chickens this year? Before you buy, do yourself and your future chickens a favor and purchase a copy of Raising Chickens for Dummies. Even if you already have chickens, you’ll undoubtedly learn something new in this predestined classic.
Co-authored by a friend of Horizon Structures, Rob Ludlow of BackyardChickens.com, this book is the quintessential vade mecum for any chicken person. And the best part is, it is now available on our online store—and at a discount off the cover price!
Video: The Cinnamon Challenge
The premise is simple. Eat a spoonful of cinnamon. But no accompanying spoonful of sugar could help this medicine go down. Or water. Or milk. Nothing assuages the oral aridity caused by this overwhelmingly-rapid, saliva-sapping dust. They’ll never look at sticky cinnamon buns the same way again.
|New Coops for Spring! AVAILABLE NOW
The slump of winter breeds invention out in the shop here at Horizon. Dave, Horizon’s owner, collaborated to dream up two totally new coop models for you. Designed for those with only a few birds and those in suburban or urban areas, they’re ready to house your spring batch of chickens. All coops come delivered fully-assembled for your convenience, and they all have Horizon’s signature outside-access nest boxes. We are proud to present…
What Size Garage Do You Need? Horizon Investigates.
We get phone calls almost every day from customers looking for a quote on a garage… but they don’t know what size they want. For the sake of comparison, the most common sizes for garages are 12 x 24, 14 x 28, 20 x 20, and 24 x 24. There are two factors to consider when determining what size garage you need: what size vehicle(s) you’ll park and how much extra storage or work space you want. Read More
It’s been a long time coming, but we recently expanded our online store. In addition to chicken coops, you can now purchase stall latches, door hinges, cupolas, weathervanes, and chicken accessories. We’ll be adding all our kits—run-in sheds, stalls, garden sheds, and steel frame barns in the coming months.
Ordering online is convenient and secure. If there’s something you would like to see on the store, just let us know. We welcome feedback and suggestions. Check out our expanded online store right now!
Portable Stalls - if you already have a barn...
We’ve made another welcome addition to our barn line with portable stalls. If you are looking to convert an existing barn or add temporary stalls for events or quarantine, our portable stalls are the perfect choice.
It only takes five steps, five minutes, NO tools, and NO building experience to put up one of these ingeniously straightforward designs. The panels attach with a specially-created linchpin system, making them simple to assemble and disassemble. Piece of cake! The stalls come with heavy-duty, no-rust, welded aluminum grills; 52” wide, pre-hung doors with a drop latch; and even a feed-through cut-out. They also include all wood inserts—no need to go buy separate lumber!
Strong enough for years of continuous service; simple enough to put up and down at will. No matter what you do with them, Horizon portable stalls do it well!
Finally Offering Barn Kits!
We strive to have a barn for everyone, and a consistent minority of our customers inquires about kits. While our run-in shed kits have been around for a few years, we haven’t had an actual barn kit until now. These steel frame barn kits are ideal for those people looking for an economic center aisle barn or for those hardcore DIYers.
The barns can be enclosed for cooler climates, but with their trademark ease of ventilation they can easily be left open for maximum air circulation in southern regions. The kits come with absolutely everything you need, including doors, partitions, roofing, etc. Our steel frame barn kits are a cinch to assemble; see our web page for more details.
Also keep in mind we still offer assembly by our crew if you so choose. But whether you let us assist you or do it your own way, you’ll end up with a barn you’ll love.
The Sun on Horizon’s Horizon: We’re Going Green!
Yup, you heard it here first. The entire complex here at Horizon Structures is making the switch to solar power. The solar panels will cover most of our 165,000 sq. ft. shop roof and will give us a 370 kilowatt system.
We are thrilled to join the growing number of Amish farms and businesses embracing alternative energy. Big thanks to Smucker’s Energy!
Survey Time: Coop Plans
We get a fair number of calls asking if we sell the plans to our chicken coops. Many coop places sell only plans or kits, so some people are surprised all our coops come fully assembled. Tell us what you prefer...CLICK HERE.
