Room to Roam
Finding the right prebuilt chicken coop can feel overwhelming. You want something that keeps your flock safe, gives them room to thrive, and looks great in your yard.
Many coop buyers worry about crowding. Research shows that chickens need at least 2–4 square feet per bird indoors and 8–10 square feet per bird in the run to stay healthy. The Reverse Gable Combination Coop was designed with that in mind. Depending on the model size you choose, it will comfortably house up to 90 hens and offer space for them to roost, lay eggs, and explore.
By giving your hens room to roam and comfortable places to sleep and nest, this coop promotes calm, productive birds and reduces stress-related issues.
- Generous interior with roost bars and nest boxes. Each coop includes several wooden roost bars, providing plenty of perch space. There are more than enough nest boxes accessible within the coop area or (via hinged lids) from outside the coop, depending on the model you choose. Either way, competition during laying is reduced, and egg collection is easy.
- Built‑in run for exercise and fresh air. Your flock can forage safely in the roomy built‑in run, wrapped in heavy 1”×2” vinyl‑coated mesh and sheltered under the same roof as the coop. Choose whether your coop has a single run or two runs extending out either side of the coop structure.
- Ventilation and natural light. Adjustable windows with screens and a hinged drop vent allow fresh air to circulate while deterring predators. This design provides cross-ventilation, which reduces moisture and ammonia buildup – crucial for flock health.
Built for Safety
Protecting your flock from predators is one of the biggest concerns for backyard chicken keepers. Here’s how our coop addresses these fears:
- Chew‑proof, predator‑resistant run. The attached run uses heavy vinyl‑coated metal mesh rather than flimsy chicken wire. This material is virtually chew‑proof and rust‑resistant, deterring raccoons, foxes, and other pests.
- Secure doors and hardware. Each coop comes with a lockable full‑size man door for entry into the coop area as well as a separate, smaller chicken door for birds to move from coop to run. An exterior latch allows you to secure it in the ‘open’ or ‘closed’ position confining your hens to the coop when necessary or allowing them to go in and out at will. Chicken runs also include a hinged and latch-able mesh man-sized door for easy access directly into the run area without needing to enter the coop. Leave it open if you want to allow your flock to free range beyond the confines of the structure.
- Elevated design. The henhouse sits on 4×4 pressure‑treated skids, creating an air space below the building and keeping the coop floor from direct contact with the ground. This helps the floor stay dry and keeps the coop slightly cooler in summer.
*Our coops are solidly built with a number of design elements and features meant to deter predators. However, we do not assert that they are ‘predator proof.’ We recommend learning all you can about predators in your area and taking every precaution possible to protect your hens both inside the coop and outside, if applicable, in their chicken run.
Hassel Free Care
A coop isn’t truly “premium” unless it’s easy to live with. We know hobbyists juggle many responsibilities, so we made cleaning and upkeep straightforward.
- Easy egg collection and cleaning. There’s an option of exterior nest boxes with hinged lids that flip up for quick egg collection without disturbing hens. The roomy interior and man door let you step inside for deep cleaning as well as access to interior nest boxes should you choose that configuration.
- Ventilated, dry flooring. Pressure‑treated wood and 4×4 foundation runners / skids help keep the floor dry and resistant to rot. Cross‑ventilation from windows and the drop vent helps bedding dry faster.
- Optional feed room and interior dividers. Larger models can include interior partitions, allowing you to store feed, supplies and equipment separately or house different flocks.
Practical Use Cases
- Family egg production. Keep 6–20 hens for fresh eggs and teach kids about sustainability.
- Homesteading with a larger flock. Raise 30–50 (or more!) birds and supply eggs for neighbors or a small farm stand.
- Separate flocks or breeding projects. The double run option helps you segregate birds or control breeding.
- Educational settings. Schools, farms, and therapy programs can use the coop’s safe viewing windows and easy access to teach care and responsibility.
These real‑world scenarios help you picture how the coop will fit into your life and ensure you choose the right size and configuration.
