Take a Look Inside our Chicken Coop...

Top roost bar is approximately 8″ from the back wall and 26 1/2″ from the floor.  The lower roost bar is approximately 16 1/2″ from the back wall and 22″ from the floor.  The distance between the roost bars is about 10″.

All chicken hutches come standard with a 5/8″ pressure-treated plywood floor.

Even cleaning our chicken houses is easy – they’re small enough that you can take a broom and sweep it out without ever getting your feet dirty.

This coop has 2 sturdy roost bars to give your birds a comfortable place to rest.

Add Wheels to your coop!

Moving your chicken coop house just got easier! Here you can see the Quaker Chicken Coop with wheels to make it portable.

Powder-coated metal wagon chassis includes handle and 4 pneumatic tires. Steer the front tires with the handle for easy maneuverability. The tractor chassis takes the place of the fixed, pressure treated wood legs / base. The 2 front tires swivel for easier turning.

Use your riding lawn mower or an ATV to make the move easier.

Here we’ve lifted the coop up on a forklift so you can see how the wheels are attached.  See a close up of the tire.

Chicken Coop Exterior Features

Vinyl coated metal mesh on these chicken coop vents for 10-15 chickens keeps predators out while allowing fresh air and bright sunlight in.

Simply open this drop vent / window panel to increase ventilation and brighten up the inside of the chicken coop for 12 to 15 chickens.

Handy latch seals it tight keeping wind, rain and snow at bay.

Pressure treated wood legs and base keep our large chicken coop elevated. This provides a shady spot for the hens as well as keeping the inside of the chicken coop houses dry and cooler in summer. Being raised off the ground may even deter some predators.

*Our coops are solidly built with a number of design elements and features meant to deter predators. However, we do not assert that they are ‘predator proof.’ We recommend learning all you can about predators in your area and taking every precaution possible to protect your hens both inside the coop and outside, if applicable, in their chicken run.

The Quaker Chicken Coop

Horizon Structures first added prebuilt chicken coops to our product line in 2009 and the very first model was the Quaker coop. Back then, it was known as the ‘4×6’ which referred to the dimensions of the coop footprint. Later the name was changed to the ‘5×6’ to take into account the overall dimensions and include the nest box portion extending 1’ beyond the ‘footprint.’

At that time, backyard chicken keeping was undergoing a resurgence in popularity and sales soared. Horizon Structures responded by shipping this highly sought after prebuilt coop coast-to-coast throughout the Continental US.

But customers demanded ‘more.’ More styles to choose from. More options and upgrades to add (such as an attached chicken run). More sizes to accommodate larger (and smaller) flocks in both rural AND urban settings. Horizon heeded the call and responded with an explosion of new coop models. Making a wide range of sizes available for every new style we developed.

4x6 Quaker Coop Standard
As such, it no longer made sense to identify this overwhelmingly popular and in demand coop simply by its size. The humble little coop that started it all was renamed “The Quaker” and made available for flocks ranging from 4 to 100 chickens!  Choosing the name “Quaker” was a no-brainer. A simple glance at this charming coop sums it all up. Quaker style refers to a traditional architectural design known for its simplicity, practicality, and balanced proportions. Originating from the values of the Quakers (a Christian group known for their modesty and functionality), this style features:
  • An asymmetrical roofline with a distinctive overhang at the front providing extra protection from sun and precipitation as well as better run-off for rain and melting snow, helping maintain a drier coop interior.
  • Clean, simple lines and minimal ornamentation make it a Classic that fits seamlessly into ANY landscape.  Rustic yet refined, the design simultaneously fits right into rural, suburban AND urban settings.
  • A strong emphasis on function and durability. It’s visually appealing and designed with real-world chicken-keeping benefits built right into its Standard Features.
  • The ‘Saltbox’ roofline of this coop, often seen in barns and early American structures, adds character and a touch of traditional charm to any property from Maine to California and everywhere in between.
